Today we meet the sunrise only to find this monstrosity. We are on our way home. Yesterday’s flu seems to have passed. Thank you to the nice Dr. Cronk in Mammoth and those short lived viruses. What do they get out of life?
25 Miles to Mojave
10:59 am, 25 miles outside of Mojave. Hutch is two hours ahead of us, Jerry and Milt in between, and Randi and Darrel about an hour behind.
Photographically, I need to say something about iPhone photography. It seems all the pundents are talking about small camera photography, but much of the talk is comparing them to their SLR. It not about that for me, it is a whole different style which I will illustrate on this trip with extreme compositions and on device processing using PhotoGene.
Last minute inspirations before the trip
My mind is racing with last minute inspirations. We had a great judge, Chris Brown, at the Ventura County Camera Club meeting tonight. On several occasions he talked about the need to capture more than just a perfect image of a perfect subject and how the image needs a photographer’s view. This reminded me of the writings of David DuChemin. Somewhere, in one of his books, he writes about feeling the place, about thinking about what it is are noticing and feeling and then how can you express that in your images. As I stand at over Bishop Creek or at the edge of Convict Lake, I must remember to take stock of what the area is saying to me. Is it peaceful or torrential? Is it cold, hot, crisp? What is the experience? I must capture that experience in the image and convey it to my viewer.
So with these heady thoughts I will fall off to sleep with anticipation of what I will experience over the next 4 days of travel, adventure, and photography with my best friends. I know my days will be filled with great companionship, let’s bring on some great light, color, and expression too.
