My mind is racing with last minute inspirations. We had a great judge, Chris Brown, at the Ventura County Camera Club meeting tonight. On several occasions he talked about the need to capture more than just a perfect image of a perfect subject and how the image needs a photographer’s view. This reminded me of the writings of David DuChemin. Somewhere, in one of his books, he writes about feeling the place, about thinking about what it is are noticing and feeling and then how can you express that in your images. As I stand at over Bishop Creek or at the edge of Convict Lake, I must remember to take stock of what the area is saying to me. Is it peaceful or torrential? Is it cold, hot, crisp? What is the experience? I must capture that experience in the image and convey it to my viewer.
So with these heady thoughts I will fall off to sleep with anticipation of what I will experience over the next 4 days of travel, adventure, and photography with my best friends. I know my days will be filled with great companionship, let’s bring on some great light, color, and expression too.
